Salish School of Spokane (SSOS) is a Native-led nonprofit organization founded in 2009 by five Interior Salish women. Its mission is to revitalize the four Southern Interior Salish languages while building a strong, healthy Native community in Spokane. SSOS’s immersion school, which educates toddlers through eighth graders, teaches all subjects in n̓səl̓xčin̓ (Colville Salish), including art, athletics, powwow drumming and dancing. SOSS is currently building a new campus that will include a school, a Salish Cultural and Recreational Community Center, playgrounds, sports facilities, and cultural spaces.
